now are operating your business you will realize a problem. Once you have
gotten past the initial hump of trying to get the business up and running, the
location, the hiring, the training and all those other details that go around
with any business establishment, it is time to turn your eye to marketing.
One of the most profitable advantages to owning and
operating a franchise as opposed to an independent business is the advantage of
the franchise’s national advertising campaign. Franchises have spent years and
in many cases millions of dollars trying to establish their national marketing
campaign. Their primary emphasis in many cases is an emphasis on branding. They
want people to recognize their brand no matter what, and to identify it
immediately with a product they want to purchase.
As the operator of your own franchise, you have the
advantage of that national advertising and you should be making the best of it.
Some franchises will have rules and regulations about how much visible branding
must be present. However, most of
them don’t have rules about too much visibility. Use your brand to your
advantage in any local advertising that you take out as part of your management
duties. By utilizing the recognition factor that the national company has
worked so hard to build you cut out a large part of the advertising cycle for
yourself.
Secondly, as part of your agreement with your franchise you
will surely be obliged to at least keep your business up to their standards.
But the key is to exceed those standards. The reason for this is that it is a
two part cycle. If you take advantage of the national branding to get them in
the door, once you have them, you have a chance to get them to come back by
proving that not only is your franchise as good as any other branch of that
business they have been in before, it is in fact better. That will ensure
customer loyalty and see many return visitors.
There are advantages from a marketing standpoint to being
part of a franchising organization rather than running an independent business.
You have the advantage of using their resources that have been in place for
years, and so you should do your best to use it to your utmost advantage. It
will pay dividends if you use their marketing to your advantage.
